Ziesta 2010: July 23 -25

Get ready for some good ol' rock'n'roll shenanigans! With two nights of music at the Neurolux (21+), a barbecue behind the Boise Depot (all ages), and even a Boise River float, Ziesta (pronounced zee-es-tah) will prove to be the most memorable weekend of the summer!

Oranganized by long-time friends Jon Zubizarreta (aka Zubi) and Sam Tibbs, Ziesta began taking shape when the two decided to host a barbecue during the Basque cultural celebration of Jaialdi 2010. Drawing on Zubi's Basque heritage and Tibbs' affinity for rock'n'roll music, Ziesta quickly grew in size and scope to become a multi-day event featuring 15 bands.

Zubi explains, "My family trips to the Basque country have always included weekend festivals that could not be found anywhere else. And that's what we're trying to create here - an event that is unique to Boise, and that features some great bands. Lots of friends and families make the long trip to Boise for Jaialdi, and we want to help make their experience one that they will never forget."

Evening music performances will be at the Neurolux, and will feature a lineup of 10 amazing rock bands! From the garage-country-pop songs of Milwaukee's Goodnight Loving to the '60's-fuzz-blues of California's, The Mystery Lights, all of the Ziesta bands will make ya wanna hit the dance floor and shake your tail feathers.

"And since we organized Ziesta for fun, we decided to donate the net proceeds to local organizations that we feel make a positive impact on the Treasure Valley." Tibbs adds, "We're really excited about what Radio Boise is doing. I first discovered community radio while living in Memphis. It introduced me to all sorts of great music, and really opened my eyes to what good radio programming can be."

Supporting the Boise Bicycle Project is a no-brainer. Tibbs says of his experience, "I love being a member of a bike co-op. For one, it's a great alternative to buying a new bike. By donating a little time and effort, you learn how to build and maintain bikes. Eventually you can build your own bike with the recycled parts provided by the shop. It's also a great way to meet some really interesting people."

And there's more... The entire family is invited to the barbecue behind the Boise Depot on Saturday, July 24. ADMISSION IS FREE! There, people will find some tasty Basque eats and drinks provided by by Leku Ona (very reasonably priced), plus see some killer artists from Portland and Boise. Pure Country Gold is "arguably Portland's best two-piece blues band," and Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside was just voted Portland's Best New Band of 2010 by Willamette Week!

Things will wrap up on Sunday, July 25th, with a relaxing float down the Boise River. What better way to wind down a wild weekend of rock'n'roll than a cool float with all of your friends? It's gonna be awesome!

The greatest parties are made with three important ingredients: good friends and family, delicious food and drink, and of course, great music. And that's just what you'll find this summer at Ziesta!
