Bare Wires - Oakland, California
Bare Wires present some serious "bedroom boogie" music, meaning both the obvious definition (heh heh) and also that it sounds like a sleazy 70s boogie rock record that was somehow made by a modern-day dude in his bedroom with a four track.
"We sometimes throw around the phrase "slop-pop." We take a lot from power-pop and even some glam elements, but it's pretty much just smooth punk." Matt Melton, Lead Singer (quote from a SXSW interview by Rachel Brodsky).

Broken Spells - Provo, Utah
The BROKEN SPELLS, after “forming” in winter of 2009, consists (at this point) of 3 dudes. Joey Mayes, Dave Newlin, and Chaz Costello. All three can play their instruments very well. None of them are native to Utah, where they all reside. Joey Mayes was born and raised in Memphis TN, Dave Newlin was born and raised in El Paso TX, and Chaz Costello is from the state that shall not be named (AZ). Their common bond is love. Chaz Costello made his girlfriend (Melody M.) write a review of The BROKEN SPELLS because The BROKEN SPELLS can’t get media attention otherwise:
"The Broken Spells compel cowboys and indians to cast all differences aside for the sake of PARTYTIME. catchy cacophony, sweat, and blood mix in a frenzied concoction which shout-croons hips and feet into a fit of mindless dancing! unceasing, crackling garage punk tunes driven by manic energy, good-times,... and possibly shorty shorts."

Girlfriends - Boston, Massachusetts
"Coming from New England, (Girlfriends) probably can’t relate to surfer vibes too much, so their output fittingly channels the lo-fi method into kindling for ecstatic power pop. The boy/girl vocal exchange plows through deranged hook binges with angular guitar work and start-stop melodies. If that’s your dig, then you should go grab their new Ampeater 7″. Its two cuts are alternately manic and adolescent, with gnarled sing-alongs at driving tempos that are guiltlessly catchy and filler-free. This is definitely a local act I’ve got my eye on..." - Michael Hansen, The Decibel Tolls
The Goodnight Loving - Milwaukee, Wisconsin
Goodnight Loving smooth the edges of wild basement punk into something more organic, twangy and irresistibly catchy - effortlessly weaving country, garage rock, folk and pop into a sound all their own. Hailing from rustic Northwoods Wisconsin hamlets, the members converged on Milwaukee in the early 2000s and established themselves as one of a growing number of bands thriving in the basement scene. Their demo caught the ear of Greg Cartwright (Reigning Sound, Oblivians, Mary Weiss), leading him to produce their debut album "Cemetery Trails," a slick, stunning record showcasing their knack for beautiful, passionate pop perfection. GNL is hitting the road June/July in support of their latest release, Supper Club.
Colleen Green - Oakland, California
"If Nobunny and The Dum Dum Girls had a kid, it would be just as useless as this tired analogy. However, Colleen Green does seem to fuse lo-fi-punk-pop elements with a drum machine soaked in Ramones records, and she's played shows with Justin (close enough, right?). Le Ladies are dying to order the Milo Goes to Compton cassette, but we are happy to jam with the 4 Loko 2 Kayla release until we can get our hot hands on it." - Le Noise
"I'm trying to retrace my steps and remember how I found out about Colleen Green. She was in a band called Have Mercys coming out of Oakland CA who I never heard but probably should have. I managed to download a shit-tonne of stuff last week and I've been listening ever since... she's pretty forward about giving awesome songs away for free and should be saluted. For the lazy amongst you, the ones who need a reason before clicking a link... Colleen sounds like a shoegazey Nobunny and not a million miles away from the criminally underrated Joy Zipper..." -Suffering Jukebox

La Knots - Boise, Idaho
La Knots is a drums and guitar duo from Boise thats been together since 2004. Demmi and Tuck started playing in the 8th grade and have since then gone on a west coast tour with Castrati and have played at The Hyde Park Street Fair, The Venue, The Knitting Factory, Terrapin Station, The Visual Arts Collective and a large amount of house shows in the Boise area. Low-fi - Boise, Idaho
"Low-fi rocks you to the core and moves the soul with some down and dirty real life rock and roll baby! With nothing left on the table these cats give rock a zest that isn't often found in today's music industry..." -Catsask Music & Entertainment
Low-fi is a three piece indie-rock band from Boise, ID that lives by the motto, “less is more.” The band formed in early 2007 and released their debut LP, ‘Where You Are’ to local critical acclaim in September of that same year. Low-fi plays catchy tunes with smart lyrics that you’ll find yourself humming hours after hearing the band live or recorded.

The Mean Jeans - Portland, Oregon
"I was recently in Portland Oregon and decided to stop by the Mean Jeans compound. I wanted to say what up and ask a few questions about their new album on Dirtnap records titled “Are You Serious”. Let me tell you, these guys are living the dream. They got it all figured out. Fast, catchy, punk rock, pizza, party sharks, cases of Keystone, and good times. If you’re not listening to this band you were probably born before “fun” was invented." - CS, TheComune.com
The Mystery Lights - Salinas, California
"The Mystery Lights were intense. They were completely high-energy, fueled garage rock action. From a first look, these guys were young, way younger than they sounded. I was not expecting what was in store for me. As they warmed up and did a sound check, you could easily tell that the energy and suspense building up in the crowd was overwhelming."
"Dressed like Dee Dee Ramone, lead singer Mike Brandon was full of raw energy. He was a blur onstage most of the time, legs thrashing, arms flailing, jumping and just going crazy with the microphone. He had a really great voice too - it was perfect for the bluesy 60s garage sound they were going for. The band played loud: a wall of guitar riffs with a pounding bass line and thunderous drums. Their sound was massive for just four people." - JH, CTIndie.com

The Parallels - Vancouver, British Columbia
The Parallels never stand still. Fittingly neither does their music, jumping from decade to decade, and drawing influences from the most storied bands of rock & roll history and the kids in the garage down the block. Their sound is an amped up and hyperactive blend of rock and soul sensibilities that place heavy emphasis on the movement of the dance floor.
Pure Country Gold - Portland, Oregon
"Pure Country Gold is so perfectly raw, electric and unpretentious that I actually witnessed a hipster take off his thrift-store sweater and flog himself with his white belt in shame at one of their live shows." - Matt Slessler, Pabst Blue Ribbon
"The Portland two-piece outfit, Pure County Gold feed from the same hollow echo guitar sound the Oblivians brought to the nineties, as if they were lucky enough to end up with one of Ray Butts' EchoSonic amps themselves. Their building rhythms and booty-shaking breakdowns are as soul quenching as they come." - Victim of Time

Sallie Ford & the Sound Outside
On a whim, Sallie Ford pulled up her Carolina roots and moved across the country to Portland, Oregon, where she has been writing songs since 2006. She met drummer Ford Tennis and bassist Tyler Tornfelt in 2008, and then a year later met lead guitarist Jeff Munger while he was performing on the streets.
Though inspired by the vocal stylings of old jazz, blues and soul singers like Billie Holiday, Bessie Smith and Etta James, Sallie and her three-piece band, 'The Sound Outside,' also seek a contemporary sound to throw into the mix. Continuing to enjoy the musical community in Portland, Oregon, Sallie Ford and The Sound Outside self-released their first EP 'Not An Animal' in May 2009. Their debut full-length album is forthcoming, and has a release date planned in Fall 2010.

Thee Goochi Boiz - Boulder, Colorado
Thee Goochi Boiz showed that sometimes sloppiness is a good thing. First time listeners may feel like their sound is unorganized and thrown together, however, the careless attitude that is emitted through their music is really the best thing about them. That and how mind-numbingly catchy their songs are. Their blend of lo-fi surf-rock and catchy vocals hooks make them a stand out (Boulder) act.
Wavves and Black Lips comparisons can’t be forgotten, but the Boiz are not just dead-ringers for the indie acts that lead the genre. They are truly punk–differentiating them from their more polished popular counterparts. Their sound is punk, their stage presence was punk (not Warped Tour Punk–good punk) and the short-lived mosh pit added to the “ah, get away from me” feeling that we stand-and-stare showgoers often feel at punk shows. Their music is fun and watching them is fun. Their vocal hooks were well-harmonized. All around they were on, but even if they weren’t it probably wouldn’t make a difference. - Marissa Malouff, Friday All Week

Thee Headliners - Portland, Oregon
"Wearing their influences proudly, from pre-rock Americana’s folk and country roots to 60’s soul, from jazz and murder ballads to garage rock, the band’s sound is like a snowball effect of the past 90 years of American music-all rolled into one distortion-heavy package." Ap Kryza, Willamette Week
White Fang - Portland, Oregon
"Self-proclaimed “gnar-shredders”, White Fang is an untamed beast, a herd of ravageous rockers with childlike spirits and souls swooned by 90s punkrock." -Force Field PR
“the smiling faced, Kool-Aid-addled, and youthful cartoon-warrior heart of Portland punk” -The Portland Mercury
